Exciting week, capped with the Spring Dance Concert, fifteen dances strong. Last weekend was prom and techs for the concert. On Saturday, the night of the prom, I found one of the emergency exits propped open with a gift card. The guy I replaced may have not been the most jovial, but I’m downright sadistic. I locked the doors that they would try and go to and then hid in chair storage (which has a very silent door). Unfortunately, I didn’t have all night to wait, and eventually I just closed the door.
Techs went well, it was quite helpful to have seen the dances beforehand. Denis Houyoux came up at the beginning of the week and I showed him around. It was very good to see him. Tuesday was the mixer of the new local Council for the Arts, with a silent auction. I did not win anything.
I was pretty pleased with the dance concert. There were a number of really strong dances. There were a few dances where I felt my work lacking. One, in particular, I described as “vomiting light onstage.” It was just cluttered, but for the most part I was proud of my work. Friday, when we didn’t have an audience was slightly better, both technically and performance-wise, than the performance on Saturday.
